Dan has held various positions with the Band over the years and currently is the Director of Lands and Environment as well and advisor in matters relating to the Boat Harbor Settlement Agreement and the Boat Harbour Trust.
Dan, along with Chief and Council and the other Departmental Directors is a member of the overall Management Team of the Band which meets regularly to develop projects and to plan the direction for band management and community improvement.
As the Director of Lands and Environment Dan is responsible for the tracking and management of the Band’s growing land base which now stands at approximately five thousand acres, (plus or minus pending completion of official land surveys).
Management of these lands requires the development of an overall Land Management Plan that outlines the size, location, resource assessment, development potential, highest and best use assessment that then become tools in the planning of the overall management, economic and social development of the community.
Dan also acts as an advisor to the Chief and Council, the Pictou Landing Band Trustees and the Corporate Trustee on matters relating to the Boat Harbour Settlement Agreement and the Boat Harbour Trust. Dan works with the Chief and Council and the Band’s legal services providers in planning and development of the Band’s law suit against the Province of Nova Scotia and Northern Pulp as well as on legal matters relating to the Boat Harbor Settlement Agreement and the Boat Harbour Trust.
